The Desert Speaks in Sound
A signal that started as a spark of an idea in Joshua Tree’s storied studio, David Catching shares the story behind the Valhalla combo built to echo both his voice and the desert that inspires it daily.
This amplifier was born from conversations at Rancho De La Luna, shaped by David Catching’s vision and Valhalla’s craft.
What began as casual talks in his iconic studio became a true collaboration. Together, Catching and the Valhalla team created an amplifier built to his exact feel, focused on playability and response rather than technical detail. It also carries something new for Valhalla, a reverb tank included at David’s request, making this the first amplifier in the lineup to weave spacious atmosphere directly into its sound.
DAVID’s first notes from this amplifier were not in the relative safety of his studio, but on stage at Pappy & Harriet’s.
Presented to David just before his birthday show in 2025, the combo made its debut in the heat of a live performance. Without hesitation, he brought it on stage that night, trusting it completely in front of friends, peers, and a packed desert crowd. The moment reflected exactly what this collaboration was about, an amplifier designed to meet a player’s needs so fully that it feels ready from the very first chord.
In the above companion film, the Valhalla team & David share their perspective on the night before, when the new amplifier was unveiled on stage for the first time. The team talks about the energy of the show, the trust that comes from placing a brand new build into an artist’s hands, and how this collaboration captured the essence of Rancho De La Luna. For them, it was more than a debut, it was proof that the amplifier carried both the sound and the spirit it was created to hold.
